Filton Phoenix Volleyball Club

27th November marked the first game of the season where the two club teams rivaled for a win in Saturday’s B&D fixture. After Phoenix successfully played against Clevedon Spoons, the Phoenix met the Firebirds.  Both sides were equally matched and neither team was wanting to lose out. It was some challenging, fun and entertaining Volleyball. An extreme close set at the end marked the Phoenix victory. The final match of the day the Firebirds played again a very close game against the Clevedon Spoons. A stray serve, by a player who will remain unnamed, provided an opportunity for the Spoons to come back in the game and snatch victory in 2: sets at the end.

Thanks to all club members, who did make it out to Bedminster even in the extreme weather conditions with snow and ice on the roads.

Big it up to both teams and everybody who played today: Pete, Kev, Aubrey, Niall, Greg, Claudio, Imran, Cath, Anthea, Ines, Dave and Dimi.

This weekend the Phoenix Birds of Fire saw their first test of the season, playing against the leaders of last year City of Bristol, and The Startled Moose from the BVC.  An amazing start brought the team into the lead against the tall team of City players, unfortunately after two more sets of fast play and great contribution from everybody the team lost, but still with a feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction. Startled Moose were after all not too startled  and the Phoenix had to show combination of determination and head strength to pull through to victory. So, not a bad start at all: won one and lost one.
